Congratulations and Thank You
Santa Rosa, California
Have you ever been frustrated and outraged when you hear about another accident where innocent people have been the victims of a person whose license has been suspended for the 3rd, 4th,10th, or how about the 20th time. Yes there are individuals driving whose licenses have been suspended that many times. These people laugh at our judicial system. What difference does it make if they get stopped again. They will get another suspension and just ignore it again.
Recently, I was watching The Crusaders, a TV news program that featured a segment on this problem. They actually stopped people driving away from the same courthouse where just moments before their license had been suspended. Last year alone, California suspended the licenses of 1.6 million drivers and statistics showed that 70% continued to drive. Nationwide, suspended drivers killed over 3,000 people last year and all too often they were driving while drunk. This is pathetic. Shame on you judicial system for not being able to properly enforce the laws.
Is there a SOLUTION?
Yes. The Crusaders found one in Santa Rosa, California. If they catch you driving in their town without a license your car is history.... They take it away.
It was very pleasant to see these wise guys moaning and complaining how “unfair” it was when they found out that the police weren’t kidding and that their cars were being taken away. They taught it was a big joke when they continued to drive with suspended licenses but losing their cars wiped the smirk off their faces real quick. In just a 6 week period, the Santa Rosa Police Department had confiscated 211 cars.
This solution has withstood the legal challenge and it can be implemented in any city in America. California State Senator Quenton Copp has introduced a bill that would use this approach throughout his state. (Good luck and thank you Senator Copp)
The general public and the police officers who do their job in apprehending law breakers are frustrated with the repeat offender who doesn’t pay his fines, doesn’t carry insurance, doesn’t show up in court and won’t stop driving. The officers that The Crusaders spoke to all agreed that taking the car was the solution.
A Challenge to City, County, and State Officials:
Have a look at what Santa Rosa is doing. Contact them or Senator Copp for more details and see how their plan is working out. If you have other suggestions let us know. If they have merit, I’ll share them in this publication.
A Challenge to Some Lawyers:
Get a life. Start fighting on behalf of the victims. Stop trying to find loopholes in the law that help the guilty and further hurt the victims. Use your talents for a constructive purpose.
A Challenge to Law-Abiding Citizens: Don’t lose heart. If one person or town in California is starting to make a difference, other people and towns can make a difference. Give praise when you see a good deed done and fear not to voice your opinion and ideas where there is need of change.
Remember... by getting actively involved,
you will be doing good for the community and
you will feel good about yourself.
